WELLS TOWNSHIP — The person killed in a house fire in Wells Township Thursday night has been identified as David J. LaMarche, 62, of Escanaba.

At about 11:35 p.m. on Thursday, Delta County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a fire at 6927 I.5 Lane in Wells Township.

When Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, they found the two-story residence engulfed in flames.

Escanaba Public Safety officers, with the help of Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department, brought the fire under control. A search of the residence resulted in the discovery of an individual’s remains.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
