District judge report presented for October

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County District Judge Julie A. LaCost has issued her activity report for the month of October.

New criminal cases for the month included 13 felonies, 14 misdemeanors, 16 OWIL/OUI misdemeanors and one felony drunk driving.

New civil cases for the month included 31 general civil cases, 17 small claims cases and five landlord/tenant disputes.

New traffic cases included 178 civil infractions, 26 misdemeanors and three non-traffic civil infractions.

Criminal dispositions for the month included four guilty pleas to felonies reduced to misdemeanors, three dismissed, 16 felony preliminary exams of which 15 were waived over to circuit court and one was bound over to circuit court, three felony drunk driving cases reduced to misdemeanors, one felony drunk driving preliminary exam was waived over to circuit court, 12 misdemeanors and 14 OWI misdemeanors.

Civil Dispositions included 40 general civil, 17 small claims and eight landlord/tenant.

Traffic dispositions included 170 civil infractions and 28 misdemeanors. There were five non-traffic civil infractions

The District Court handled three court trials, one probation violation, 12 drug-sobriety court referrals, three defendants were referred to the Alcohol Highway Safety Program, two defendants were referred to the shoplifters counseling program, three defendants were referred to the sheriff’s work van, six defendants were referred to alcohol counseling. There were four show cause hearings and four marriage ceremonies.

Funds turned over to the county treasurer totaled $64,247.14. Funds turned over to the court trust totaled $4,139.80.
