Miron Construction conducts walk-through at Niagara schools

NIAGARA, Wis. — A contractor from Green Bay, Wis., recently went through Niagara Public Schools to create a “wish list” for district officials of items to upgrade, repair or replace.

Superintendent Nate Burklund told the school board earlier this week that Miron Construction’s assessment still is in the early stages; some items may be deleted and others added by the time Miron presents some cost figures in a few weeks.

But when completed, the list should give the board and administration a better idea of what could or should be done if the district decides to take a referendum to voters.

In other business, the board:

— Decided against renewing a $6,690 contract with Schneider Electric Service of Rhinelander, Wis., to help with energy savings. After hiring Schneider the past three years, the district can have its custodians operate the program, Burklund said. The district can re-enter the contract at any time, he added.

— Approved a $113,876.40 contract with CESA 8 for specialized services, roughly the same amount as last year’s contract, Burklund said. CESA provides many shared services for students with special needs such as hearing impairment. If the district had to provide the services itself, the cost would be prohibitive, Burklund said.

— Changed the March board meeting from Monday, March 23, to Wednesday, March 18.

— Learned the district has set Literacy Night for (time?) Thursday, with a fairy tale theme. Early Childhood Development Day will be March 10.

— Tabled action on several policies to allow more time to examine them and make changes if needed.
