ATV crash in Iron County injures Iowa man
BATES TOWNSHIP — An Iowa man was airlifted to a hospital in Wausau, Wis., after the all-terrain vehicle he was riding crashed into a tree Saturday in Iron County.
Mathew Stoychoff, 41, reportedly lost control of his ATV while rounding a curve at a high rate of speed on a private trail near Bates-Amasa Road about 8:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post.
The ATV struck a tree, ejecting Stoychoff into another tree. He reportedly was not wearing a helmet.
Stoychoff was transported by ambulance to Aspirus Hospital in Iron River and later airlifted to the Wausau hospital for further treatment.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the release.
Troopers were assisted by the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Iron County Search and Rescue and Aspirus EMS.
