Pembine Elementary School is honored with Wisconsin Title I Schools of Recognition Award
MADISON, Wis. — State Superintendent Carolyn Stanford Taylor recently recognized Pembine Elementary School as being among 107 schools in the state that received Wisconsin Title I School of Recognition honors in the 2019-20 school year.
The Schools of Recognition award is presented to schools leveraging federal Title I funding to provide additional resources and services to economically disadvantaged students. The staff and students of Pembine Elementary earned an award for beating the odds for the third year in a row. Criteria for receiving a Schools of Recognition award for beating the odds include being in the top 25% of high-poverty schools in the state and have above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to schools from similarly sized districts, schools, grade configurations, and poverty levels.
“Due to the (Title I Voices) partnership of the community, our dedicated staff and the leadership of our students, improving our educational and social environment has been realized,” Maureen Schiefelbein, coordinator for Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine district’s Title 1 program, said in a written news release.
“It has been our goal to ensure equity and student empowerment by intentionally planning for behavioral, cognitive, and social/emotional engagement across our school and community. We are fortunate that there is a deep understanding of and commitment to the work of designing a comprehensive approach that helps us to achieve our goals,” she said in the statement.
