Prosecutor issues May report

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County Prosecutor Lisa M. Richards has released her department’s activity report for May.

The office received 70 police reports from the five area law enforcement agencies and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

From those reports, the office authorized 14 felony and 42 misdemeanor warrants. There were 16 warrant requests reviewed and denied and three were resubmitted to the investigating agency for further investigation.

Warrants authorized included eight for domestic violence or assault offenses, 13 for alcohol offenses, 10 for theft or property offenses, six for drug offenses, 22 for traffic offenses, two for carrying a concealed weapon, and one each for distributing sexually explicit material, stalking and for being fugitive from justice.

The office also drafted and submitted four juvenile delinquency petitions to the probate court.

Throughout the month, the office had 12 preliminary examinations resulting in seven defendants being bound over to the circuit court for further proceedings, one circuit court sentencing hearing, seven circuit court pre-trial conferences and 16 circuit court arraignments.

The office also conducted numerous bench trials, motion hearings, probation violation and show cause hearings in the district, probate and circuit courts.
