Coming through the rye

Betsy Bloom/Daily News photo

Matt Skogman of Skogman Seed Farm in Foster City mows a rye field Tuesday on M-69 in Felch Township. The rye had been planted as a cover crop with vetch, which fixes nitrogen in the soil. The rye isn’t being harvested, however, because seed mills don’t like the vetch mixed in, Skogman said. The farm had planted an adjacent field with potatoes.

Starting at $3.50/week.
