Cuyler Crites awarded Bay College Board of Trustee Elite Scholarship

CUYLER CRITES

IRON MOUNTAIN — Bay College is proud to announce Cuyler Crites of Felch Township, son of Sally and Steve Crites, as the Dickinson County Board of Trustee Elite Scholarship winner through Bay College.

The Board Elite Scholarship covers full tuition and fees, as well as course required books, for the fall and winter semesters immediately following high school graduation and are renewable for a second year provided required criteria is maintained.

“I was really happy when I heard I was selected for this scholarship. My parents were really happy and my mom even cried when we got the news. This scholarship will allow me to focus on school for my first few years while saving for when I transfer on to Central Michigan University,” stated Crites.

Crites had taken Bay College classes as a dual enrolled student in high school and had planned to attend Bay College in the fall. He made the decision to attend Bay College and then took the initiative to apply for as many scholarships as he could.

“Bay is the smart choice. The class sizes are smaller and you get more interaction and support. Plus, staying with my parents allows me to save a ton of money,” Crites said.

Crites plans to attend Bay College for pre-professional health, transfer to Central Michigan University for his bachelor’s degree, and then continue on to medical school to become an anesthesiologist.

Among his academic achievements were six consecutive semesters of academic honors; two consecutive semesters of all A’s; and departmental awards in social studies, biology, and trigonometry. He also earned an academic letter.

Crites was vice president of his class as a sophomore. Extracurricular activities included band from eighth grade year to his senior year, National Honor Society, varsity football from sophomore year to senior year, holding the duty of team captain during the 2019 season, and varsity basketball his junior and senior year. Outside of school, Crites is a member of St. Joseph’s Mission Church in Foster City, where he does most of his volunteer work. He also enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, listening to music, watching sports and playing video games.
