COVID-19 cases jump again in Marinette County

For a third straight day, Wisconsin COVID-19 data shows Marinette County with a double-digit increase in positive cases Monday to top 330 total.

Dickinson County also has three new positives for a total of 46 to date, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department posted Monday on its Facebook page; that is one more than Michigan health officials listed Monday on the state’s COVID-19 data site.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services data site Monday indicated 16 more positives among the 15 Upper Peninsula counties: six in Menominee County, three in Gogebic County and one each in Alger, Delta, Dickinson, Houghton, Mackinac, Marquette and Ontonagon.

While the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Monday only had new positives in Marinette County for that side of the region, the Vilas County Health Department stated on its Facebook page it has recorded nine new positives since Saturday, for total of 47, plus Iron County health officials had 73 cases, up one from the state’s total.

For the Upper Peninsula, the MDHHS data site Monday had Keweenaw County with two confirmed cases and one probable; Luce County with three confirmed cases; Ontonagon County, four confirmed and one probable; Baraga County, five confirmed cases; Alger County, seven confirmed cases and two probable; Schoolcraft County, 12 confirmed cases; Mackinac County, 17 confirmed cases and three probable; Iron County, 17 confirmed cases and one death; Chippewa County, 24 confirmed cases and eight probable; Houghton County, 41 confirmed cases and seven probable; Dickinson County, 45 confirmed cases, one probable and two deaths; Delta County, 62 confirmed cases, 19 probable and three deaths; Gogebic County, 92 confirmed cases, seven probable and a death; Menominee County, 95 confirmed cases and five probable; and Marquette County, 127 confirmed cases, 11 probable and 11 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS also earlier separately had prison inmates as positive in Luce and Chippewa counties.

Using strictly the state figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Monday has had 555 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 18 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 604 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Monday for a total of 83,386 to date. The state had six new deaths Monday for a total of 6,212.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state DHS data site Monday listed Marinette County with 331 cases and three deaths; Iron County 72 cases and one death; Forest County 59 cases and four deaths; Vilas County 38 cases; and Florence County seven cases. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies; the Florence County Health Department on its website Monday still listed only six cases.

Wisconsin reported 404 new cases Monday for a total of 54,924 55,328 to date, according to the state DHS data site. The state had only one new COVID-19 death Monday to reach 949 to date.

According to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department, Dickinson County as of Monday had 46 confirmed COVID-19 positives, with seven recovered, two deaths and 37 cases still active. Iron County has 17 positives, with five recovered, one death and 11 still active.
