Ferguson, Metsa win primary as Dems for state, US House seats
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dana Ferguson and Janet Metsa were the respective winners in contested Democratic primaries for federal and state offices on Tuesday.
In the 1st Congressional District, Ferguson, of Negaunee, had 63% of the vote with 70% of precincts reporting, defeating Linda O’Dell of Petoskey. Ferguson will challenge incumbent U.S. Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Watersmeet in November.
In the 110th Michigan House District, Metsa, a Houghton County businesswoman, had 74% of the vote in a three-person primary. Far behind Metsa, with 70% of precincts reporting, were Lawrence Dale of Ironwood, 16%, and Casey VerBerkmoes of Lake Linden, 10%.
Metsa will advance to challenge incumbent state Rep. Greg Markkanen, R-Hancock.
