Car hits moped in IM

IRON MOUNTAIN — A 32-year-old Iron Mountain man was injured Sunday when the moped he was driving was struck by a car on River Avenue, police said.

The man was transported to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.

The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. when an eastbound car driven by an 89-year-old Iron Mountain woman failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of F Street and River Avenue, entering the path of the southbound moped, officers said.

Assisting at the scene were Iron Mountain Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Integrity Care EMS, said Edwin Mattson, director of police and fire services.
