No frost on these pumpkins
Fran McCarthy of Hamilton Lakes worked Thursday afternoon to get some of his garden crops in before the freeze predicted for overnight in the region. His neighbor, Darrell Younk, has allowed him for about a decade to have the garden on the Waucedah Township property. He estimated he has about 70 pumpkins, large and small, along with tomatoes, carrots and acorn squash. While he did pick some tomatoes, most will remain on the vine, he said, as this season gave him more than he could use or further store. Temperatures this morning and early Saturday were expected to dip to 30 degrees or lower throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service, likely ending the growing season for the year.
