Dickinson reports 2 new virus deaths, 38 additional cases
Dickinson County has had two new COVID-19-related deaths and 38 confirmed positives, according to local health officials.
No further information was provided on the two fatal cases, as has been the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department’s practice to protect the deceased’s families.
The DIDHD on Wednesday showed Dickinson County at 847 confirmed positives so far and 31 probable cases, with 255 recovered, 22 deaths and 601 cases still active. For Iron County, the department has had 477 confirmed cases and 34 probables, with 273 recovered, 24 deaths and 214 cases still active.
Across the Upper Peninsula’s 15 counties, the state’s data site Wednesday listed 297 confirmed COVID-19 positives: 69 in Delta County, 48 in Luce County, 39 in Dickinson County, 32 in Marquette County, 29 in Ontonagon County, 19 in Menominee County, 16 in Chippewa County, 12 in Iron County, 10 in Schoolcraft County, nine in Houghton County, eight in Baraga County, five in Gogebic County and one in Mackinac County. Gogebic County also showed a new death. Such a high jump in Luce County in the past has signaled prison cases improperly included and later removed.
In total for the U.P., the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County with 24 confirmed cases and one probable; Alger County, 102 confirmed, 29 probable and one death; Luce County, 111 confirmed cases and 27 probable; Schoolcraft County, 112 confirmed cases and seven probable, plus one probable death; Baraga County, 127 confirmed cases, 26 probable and four deaths; Chippewa County, 134 confirmed cases and 103 probable; Mackinac County, 142 confirmed cases and 40 probable; Ontonagon County, 146 confirmed, 20 probable and one death; Gogebic County, 357 confirmed cases and 138 probable, six confirmed deaths and nine probable deaths; Iron County, 476 confirmed cases and 32 probable, 23 confirmed deaths and four probable; Menominee County, 758 confirmed cases, 83 probable and seven deaths; Dickinson County, 848 confirmed cases and 25 probable, 20 confirmed deaths and one probable; Houghton County, 868 confirmed cases, 181 probable, eight confirmed deaths and two probable; Marquette County, 1,219 confirmed cases, 161 probable and 18 deaths; and Delta County, 1,367 confirmed cases and 157 probable, 33 confirmed deaths and seven probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Using only the state figures Wednesday, the Upper Peninsula has had 6,791 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 121 deaths.
The MDHHS reported 4,101 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Wednesday for a total of 192,096 to date. The state added 19 new deaths for a total of 7,419.
For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site for Wednesday had 54 new cases in Vilas County, 37 in Marinette County, 14 in Forest County, eight in Iron County and six in Florence County. The state also indicated a new death in Vilas County that was confirmed by the county’s health department.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 1,978 confirmed cases, 136 probable cases and 18 deaths; Vilas County, 722 confirmed, 22 probable and seven deaths; Forest County, 532 confirmed, 29 probable and 11 deaths; Florence County, 234 confirmed, 13 probable and eight deaths; and Iron County, 232 confirmed, 48 probable and five deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
Wisconsin had 5,935 new positives Wednesday — a new daily record for the state — for a total of 244,002. The state added 54 new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday to reach 2,156.
