State lists 71 new Dickinson virus cases

Florence County has two new deaths

Michigan’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday showed Dickinson County adding 71 new cases, the biggest rise for the day among the 15 counties in the Upper Peninsula.

Across the border, Florence County has had two more virus-related deaths to reach 10, according to both the Wisconsin COVID-19 data site and the county’s health department.

For Wednesday, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ numbers indicated 226 confirmed new positives in the Upper Peninsula: 71 in Dickinson County, 46 in Marquette County, 29 in Baraga County, 20 in Menominee County, 17 in Delta County, eight in Iron County, seven in Mackinac County, six in Gogebic and Chippewa counties, five in Houghton and Ontonagon counties, three in Schoolcraft County, two in Luce County and one in Alger County. The state also listed two new deaths in Gogebic and Ontonagon counties and one new each in Dickinson, Iron, Menominee and Delta counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS COVID-19 data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County with 28 confirmed cases and one probable, and one death; Luce County, 85 confirmed cases and 37 probable; Alger County, 115 confirmed, 40 probable and one death; Schoolcraft County, 130 confirmed cases and six probable, plus one probable death; Mackinac County, 159 confirmed cases and 42 probable; Chippewa County, 181 confirmed cases and 219 probable; Ontonagon County, 200 confirmed, 22 probable and four deaths; Baraga County, 218 confirmed cases, 32 probable and four deaths; Gogebic County, 427 confirmed cases and 165 probable, nine confirmed deaths and 10 probable deaths; Iron County, 549 confirmed cases and 33 probable, 25 confirmed deaths and four probable; Menominee County, 895 confirmed cases, 90 probable and nine deaths; Houghton County, 957 confirmed cases, 200 probable, eight confirmed deaths and one probable; Dickinson County, 1,102 confirmed cases and 40 probable, 26 confirmed deaths and two probable; Delta County, 1,613 confirmed cases and 186 probable, 43 confirmed deaths and eight probable; and Marquette County, 1,658 confirmed cases, 202 probable and 19 deaths. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 8,317 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 149 deaths.

The MDHHS reported 6,008 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan on Wednesday for a total of 229,285 to date. The state added 42 new deaths Wednesday for a total of 7,766.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department did not update its figures Wednesday as the office was closed for Veterans Day. Tuesday it reported a new death in Iron County along with nine new positives, while Dickinson County had 16 new cases.

The DIDHD on Tuesday had Dickinson County at 1,064 confirmed positives and 63 probable cases, with 360 recovered, 25 deaths and 742 cases still active. Iron County has had 545 confirmed cases and 35 probables, with 303 recovered, 26 deaths and 251 cases still active.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday had 42 new cases in Marinette County, 35 in Vilas County, 14 in Forest County, eight in Florence County and seven in Iron County, along with the two new deaths in Florence County.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 2,284 confirmed cases, 177 probable cases and 20 deaths; Vilas County, 882 confirmed, 22 probable and eight deaths; Forest County, 613 confirmed, 36 probable and 11 deaths; Iron County, 281 confirmed, 51 probable and five deaths, one probable; and Florence County, 266 confirmed, 14 probable and 10 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin had 7,048 new positives Wednesday for a total of 285,891. The state added 62 new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday to reach 2,457.
