Dickinson adds 40 COVID-19 cases, Iron seven; both have deaths

Local health officials Wednesday reported 40 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in Dickinson County and seven in Iron County, plus a new death in each county.

The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department on Wednesday had Dickinson County at 1,718 confirmed positives and 100 probable cases, with 779 recovered, 44 deaths and 995 cases still active. Iron County has had 702 confirmed cases and 40 probables, with 476 recovered, 31 deaths and 235 cases still active, according to the DIDHD.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday listed 169 more confirmed positives in the Upper Peninsula: 44 in Dickinson County, 28 in Delta County, 24 in Menominee County, 22 in Marquette County, 13 in Gogebic County, 12 in Houghton County, eight in Iron County, six in Chippewa County, five in Baraga County and four each in Ontonagon and Mackinac counties; Alger County’s total was lowered by one. The state added two deaths in Baraga County and one in Delta County but for some reason reduced Dickinson County’s toll by one.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS had Keweenaw County at 57 confirmed cases and 14 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 118 confirmed cases and 53 probable; Alger County, 159 confirmed, 79 probable and one death, one probable; Schoolcraft County, 164 confirmed cases and 11 probable, one death and one probable; Mackinac County, 220 confirmed cases and 85 probable, one death; Ontonagon County, 256 confirmed, 27 probable and 13 deaths, one probable; Chippewa County, 369 confirmed cases and 516 probable, and six deaths; Baraga County, 419 confirmed cases, 81 probable and 23 deaths; Gogebic County, 597 confirmed cases and 217 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and 12 probable deaths; Iron County, 701 confirmed cases and 38 probable, 29 confirmed deaths and four probable; Menominee County, 1,241 confirmed cases, 139 probable and 18 deaths; Houghton County, 1,289 confirmed cases, 295 probable, 11 confirmed deaths and two probable; Dickinson County, 1,709 confirmed cases and 98 probable, 39 confirmed deaths and six probable; Delta County, 2,256 confirmed cases and 298 probable, 51 confirmed deaths and 11 probable; and Marquette County, 2,650 confirmed cases, 324 probable and 30 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only Wednesday’s state figures, the Upper Peninsula has had 12,205 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date and 235 deaths.

The MDHHS on Wednesday reported 6,955 confirmed new COVID-19 cases in Michigan for a total of 373,197 to date. The state added 81 new deaths Wednesday to reach 9,405.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, that state’s COVID-19 data site Wednesday listed 27 new positives in Marinette County, 21 in Vilas County, six in Florence County, three in Iron County and two in Forest County. New death were recorded in Marinette and Forest counties.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County with 3,012 confirmed cases, 253 probable cases and 29 deaths; Vilas County, 1,287 confirmed, 36 probable and 13 deaths; Forest County, 733 confirmed, 45 probable and 18 deaths, plus two probable deaths; Iron County, 363 confirmed, 65 probable and 10 deaths, four probable; and Florence County, 333 confirmed, 19 probable and 12 deaths. As with the Michigan data, the state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin had 3,777 new positives Wednesday for a total of 395,090 confirmed cases. The state added 82 deaths Wednesday to reach 3,502.
