Jobless rate in Dickinson County up only slightly from year ago

IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County’s jobless rate fell to 3.6% in October, only slightly higher than the rate of 3.2% in October 2019, according to data released by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.

Dickinson’s unemployment rate in September was 5.8%.

“Regional jobless rates continued to decrease in October with modest recalls of workers from pandemic-related layoffs,” said Wayne Rourke, associate director of the Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives. Industry jobs still remain below levels of a year ago, he added.

Across the state, the largest over-the-month non-farm job addition occurred in the professional and business services sector, with an advance of 14,000 jobs, Rourke said.
