State data shows 54 more virus cases in UP

State health officials added 54 confirmed COVID-19 positives across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on Saturday, along with three new deaths in the region.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 data site Saturday had 12 new confirmed cases in Houghton County; eight in Alger County; six in Ontonagon County; five in Dickinson and Menominee counties; four in Marquette, Delta and Gogebic counties; two in Keweenaw and Mackinac counties; and one in Iron and Schoolcraft counties. The deaths were recorded in Chippewa, Gogebic and Ontonagon counties.

In total for the U.P., the MDHHS data site Saturday listed Keweenaw County at 102 confirmed cases and 23 probable, and one death and one probable death; Luce County, 129 confirmed cases and 72 probable; Schoolcraft County, 226 confirmed cases and 23 probable, four deaths and one probable; Alger County, 261 confirmed, 149 probable and one death, two probable; Mackinac County, 274 confirmed cases and 140 probable, three deaths; Ontonagon County, 313 confirmed, 30 probable and 17 deaths, one probable; Baraga County, 485 confirmed cases, 90 probable and 30 deaths; Chippewa County, 681 confirmed cases and 998 probable, and 20 deaths, two probable; Gogebic County, 807 confirmed cases and 316 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and 26 probable; Iron County, 841 confirmed cases and 62 probable, 35 confirmed deaths and six probable; Menominee County, 1,574 confirmed cases, 254 probable and 34 deaths, two probable; Houghton County, 1,937 confirmed cases, 470 probable, 29 confirmed deaths and seven probable; Dickinson County, 2,084 confirmed cases and 226 probable, 56 confirmed deaths and 14 probable; Delta County, 2,597 confirmed cases and 458 probable, 62 confirmed deaths and 18 probable; and Marquette County, 3,373 confirmed cases, 472 probable and 53 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Saturday has had 15,684 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 361 deaths.

The MDHHS on Saturday listed 1,601 confirmed new COVID-19 positives in Michigan for a total of 548,069. The state added 221 new deaths Saturday — including 205 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 14,291.

The MDHHS no longer updates figures on Sundays, so the next report will be today.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site this weekend showed 18 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 16 in Vilas County, and two each in Forest and Iron counties.

The DHS on Sunday had Marinette County with 3,861 confirmed cases, 368 probable cases and 58 deaths, one probable death; Vilas County, 1,857 confirmed, 99 probable and 31 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 899 confirmed, 66 probable and 22 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 469 confirmed, 112 probable and 19 deaths, 17 probable; and Florence County, 417 confirmed, 32 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 1,681 new positives Saturday and 1,119 on Sunday for a total of 531,852 532,971 confirmed COVID-19 cases. The state listed 42 new deaths Saturday and six Sunday to reach 5,691.
