DIDHD: Iron adds 8 cases, Dickinson 6 new positives

Local health officials Thursday reported eight more confirmed COVID-19 positives in Iron County and six new cases in Dickinson County since its last update Monday.

In a Facebook post Thursday, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also listed two new probable positives and 37 recovered cases in Dickinson County, while Iron County had seven recovered from the virus.

The agency had Dickinson County at 2,386 confirmed positives and 330 probable cases, with 2,497 recovered, 72 deaths and 147 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 973 confirmed cases and 69 probables, with 914 recovered, 48 deaths and 80 active cases.

For the Upper Peninsula, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Thursday added 42 new confirmed positives: 13 in Delta County; four in Menominee, Baraga, Houghton and Chippewa counties; three in Marquette and Mackinac counties; two in Gogebic County; and one each in Dickinson, Iron, Luce, Ontonagon and Alger counties. Marquette County had two new deaths, Luce County one.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Thursday has had 19,662 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 423 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Thursday had Keweenaw County at 143 confirmed cases and 31 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 194 confirmed cases and 225 probable, two confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 320 confirmed, 191 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 324 confirmed cases and 74 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 405 confirmed, 56 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 423 confirmed cases and 238 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 639 confirmed cases, 122 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 969 confirmed cases and 67 probable, 42 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,026 confirmed cases and 360 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,061 confirmed cases and 1,381 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,777 confirmed cases, 322 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,378 confirmed cases and 328 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,490 confirmed cases, 607 probable, 32 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,301 confirmed cases and 667 probable, 72 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,212 confirmed cases, 802 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State numbers are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Thursday posted 2,057 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 871,569. The state Thursday had 112 deaths attributed to the virus — including 73 that happened earlier but recently were verified through vital records and testing, according to the MDHHS — to reach 18,467.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Thursday had four new confirmed positives in Marinette County and one in Florence County.

The DHS on Thursday had Marinette County with 4,167 confirmed cases, 464 probable cases and 66 deaths, four probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,260 confirmed, 146 probable and 39 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 960 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 578 confirmed, 119 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 447 confirmed, 54 probable and 12 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin added 485 new positives Thursday for a total of 604,863 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state listed 18 new deaths Thursday to reach 6,953.
