New virus-related death reported in Iron County

Iron County has a new death attributed to COVID-19 but no new cases, while Dickinson County has two new confirmed positives, local health officials reported Wednesday.

In a Facebook post Wednesday morning, the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department also listed four probable positives and 16 recovered cases in Dickinson County since the last update Friday, while Iron County had three residents now considered recovered from the virus.

The agency had Dickinson County at 2,407 confirmed positives and 342 probable cases, with 2,616 recovered, 72 deaths and 61 cases still active. For Iron County, the DIDHD had 987 confirmed cases and 71 probables, with 964 recovered, 49 deaths and 45 active cases.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services’ coronavirus website Wednesday added a total of 11 new cases in the Upper Peninsula for a second straight day: two each in Dickinson, Menominee, Schoolcraft, Luce, Houghton and Baraga counties; and one in Delta County; the count was reduced by one in both Keweenaw and Ontonagon counties. Iron County accounted for the only new death in the region.

Using only the state’s figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 19,999 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 432 deaths.

Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 144 confirmed cases and 32 probable, and one confirmed death and one probable death; Luce County, 223 confirmed cases and 254 probable, three confirmed death and one probable death; Alger County, 321 confirmed, 194 probable and two deaths, four probable; Schoolcraft County, 352 confirmed cases and 83 probable, four deaths and one probable; Ontonagon County, 416 confirmed, 60 probable and 20 deaths, one probable; Mackinac County, 452 confirmed cases and 253 probable, three deaths; Baraga County, 687 confirmed cases, 125 probable and 37 deaths; Iron County, 983 confirmed cases and 69 probable, 43 deaths and nine probable; Gogebic County, 1,040 confirmed cases and 364 probable, 22 deaths and 28 probable; Chippewa County, 1,079 confirmed cases and 1,394 probable, and 28 deaths, five probable; Menominee County, 1,790 confirmed cases, 327 probable and 41 deaths, two probable; Dickinson County, 2,398 confirmed cases and 340 probable, 59 deaths and 15 probable; Houghton County, 2,525 confirmed cases, 606 probable, 34 deaths and eight probable; Delta County, 3,341 confirmed cases and 699 probable, 75 deaths and 19 probable; and Marquette County, 4,248 confirmed cases, 820 probable and 60 deaths, one probable. State figures are updated almost daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

The MDHHS on Wednesday posted 420 confirmed new coronavirus positives in Michigan for a total to date of 889,001. The state Wednesday had 33 deaths attributed to the virus to reach 19,209.

For Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site had two new confirmed positives in Marinette County — along with another coronavirus-related death — and one new case in Iron County.

The DHS on Wednesday had Marinette County with 4,225 confirmed cases, 476 probable cases and 66 deaths, six probable deaths; Vilas County, 2,283 confirmed, 146 probable and 40 deaths, two probable; Forest County, 963 confirmed, 79 probable and 23 deaths, three probable; Iron County, 582 confirmed, 120 probable and 21 deaths, 19 probable; and Florence County, 451 confirmed, 55 probable and 13 deaths. As in Michigan, state numbers are updated daily but can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.

Wisconsin on Wednesday added only 176 new positives for a total of 610,400 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state posted 16 new deaths Wednesday to reach 7,110.
