DIDHD: Dickinson adds death, 62 new virus cases in past week
Local data Wednesday showed Dickinson County in the past seven days added 62 new confirmed COVID-19 positives plus a death blamed on the virus, while Iron County had 31 more cases.
Dickinson County also has had 48 probable coronavirus positives and Iron County one probable since the last Dickinson-Iron District Health Department report Dec. 22.
In addition, Dickinson County had 133 people reclassified as recovered from the virus, while Iron County had 114 recovered cases, the DIDHD listed in its Facebook post Wednesday.
The DIDHD had Dickinson County at 3,694 confirmed positives and 1,450 probable cases to date, with 4,607 recovered, 94 deaths and 443 cases still active. For Iron County, the agency had 1,689 confirmed cases and 194 probables, with 1,701 recovered, 69 deaths and 113 active cases.
At the state level, figures on the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Wednesday indicated 266 new confirmed COVID-19 positives in the Upper Peninsula since Monday: 92 in Marquette County, 35 in Delta County, 28 in Dickinson County, 21 in Houghton County, 18 in Chippewa County, 13 in Menominee County, 11 in Gogebic County, nine in Iron and Mackinac counties, eight in Luce and Alger counties, five in Baraga and Ontonagon counties, and two in Schoolcraft and Keweenaw counties. The state recorded three more deaths in Delta County, two in Marquette County, and one each in Dickinson, Iron and Houghton counties.
Using only the MDHHS numbers, the Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday has had 35,968 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 653 deaths.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data site Wednesday had Keweenaw County at 348 confirmed cases and 43 probable, and 10 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 478 confirmed cases and 563 probable, four confirmed deaths and one probable death; Ontonagon County, 674 confirmed, 78 probable and 26 deaths, one probable; Alger County, 696 confirmed, 400 probable and six deaths, five probable; Schoolcraft County, 819 confirmed cases and 384 probable, seven deaths and one probable; Mackinac County, 1,102 confirmed cases and 600 probable, 17 deaths and two probable; Baraga County, 1,281 confirmed cases, 213 probable and 46 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 1,682 confirmed cases and 191 probable, 58 deaths and 13 probable; Gogebic County, 1,901 confirmed cases and 429 probable, 33 deaths and 29 probable; Chippewa County, 2,118 confirmed cases and 3,014 probable, and 52 deaths, 12 probable; Menominee County, 3,075 confirmed cases, 1,141 probable and 52 deaths, eight probable; Dickinson County, 3,679 confirmed cases and 1,440 probable, 75 deaths and 18 probable; Houghton County, 4,805 confirmed cases, 863 probable, 62 deaths and 11 probable; Delta County, 5,829 confirmed cases and 1,325 probable, 113 deaths and 22 probable; and Marquette County, 7,481 confirmed cases, 1,765 probable and 92 deaths, five probable. State figures can lag behind local reports or have other discrepancies.
The MDHHS on Wednesday had 25,858 new confirmed coronavirus positives in Michigan since Monday, or an average of about 12,929 per day for the two-day period, for a total to date of 1,507,338. The state since Monday added 338 deaths attributed to the virus — including 232 that occurred earlier but were recently verified through a vital records review — to reach 26,988.
The state issues new COVID-19 data on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays but will not have a report Friday due to the New Year’s holiday.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the state Department of Health Services’ COVID-19 data site Wednesday had since Monday 64 new confirmed positives in Marinette County, 15 in Vilas County, nine in Forest County and five in Florence County. Vilas County had another death.
The DHS data site Wednesday had Marinette County with 7,363 confirmed cases, 1,488 probable cases and 83 deaths, 12 probable deaths; Vilas County, 3,480 confirmed, 189 probable and 66 deaths, four probable; Forest County, 1,737 confirmed, 146 probable and 36 deaths, four probable; Iron County, 833 confirmed, 214 probable and 23 deaths, 21 probable; and Florence County, 623 confirmed, 169 probable and 15 deaths.
Wisconsin data Wednesday showed 12,488 more positives in the state since Monday — or about 6,244 a day for the two-day period — for a total of 979,661 confirmed COVID-19 cases to date. The state recorded 86 more virus-related deaths over the two days to reach 10,014.
