Reservations kept on hold for Antoine
IRON MOUNTAIN — Dickinson County is developing an online reservation system for its Lake Antoine Park campground with software support from FareHarbor, but the process has been slower than expected.
Controller Brian Bousley told the county board Monday while the aim had been to have the system up and running by Jan. 1, a group of county employees now aren’t scheduled for training until Feb. 9.
Commissioner Joe Stevens, who chairs the parks committee, suggested looking elsewhere for reservation-booking software if Colorado-based FareHarbor has any further issues.
Bousley said the delay is due to the pandemic.
“I think it’s OK to wait a little bit to do it the right way,” he said, adding that most camper inquiries so far have been about long-term leases.
The board discussed scheduling a day or two to accept written reservations for leases that could later be placed in the system.
The campground will reopen in the spring after broken water pipes kept it closed all of 2021. Improvements include a new water source from an exploratory well drilled in 1999 near the boat landing.
In other action, the county board:
— Talked about reducing the Dickinson County Planning Commission from seven members to five, which could include two county board members. The panel hasn’t been able to reach a four-person quorum in recent months. For now, the emphasis will be on trying to recruit new members. “People are busy with their lives,” said Commissioner Barbara Kramer, noting there’s reluctance as well because the commission has a largely advisory role.
— Approved spending $12,600 on a replacement email server from Dell.
— Reminded the public of the Kites Over Awesome Lake Antoine event set for Saturday, Feb. 26, hosted by Lake Antoine Park Partners and community sponsors.
