US 2 crash kills Gladstone man
RAPID RIVER — A Gladstone man died as the result of a nearly head-on collision Friday on U.S. 2 near the Rapid River High School. Stanley Chilicki, 68, of Gladstone was dead at the scene, according to troopers from the Michigan State Police Post at Gladstone.
Troopers said William Rose, 58, was westbound when he hit black ice on a bridge. Rose’s vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with an eastbound pickup driven by Jon Gendron. Chilicki was a passenger in the Rose vehicle.
Rose was taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital with serious injuries. Gendron was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
The accident closed the highway for three hours until it reopened about 3:30 p.m. Officers were assisted by the Delta County Sheriff Department, the Masonville Township Fire Department, UP Health System-Rampart and Valley Med Flight.
