Dickinson County men sentenced on child porn charges

IRON MOUNTAIN — Two Dickinson County men convicted on child pornography charges received prison sentences this week in circuit court.

Judge Christopher Ninomiya sentenced Jeffrey A. McGillviray, 66, of Kingsford to five to 10 years in prison on two felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and two felony counts of computers-using to commit a crime.

McGillviray was arrested in August after an investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The investigation followed a referral from the FBI involving online sexual conversations with minors, state police said.

McGillviray initially faced 10 felony counts, each with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to four felony counts in all, with the four charges to be served concurrently. He was represented by defense attorney Karl P. Numinen.

Matthew John Ance, 39, of Iron Mountain, was sentenced by Ninomiya to 30 months to seven years in prison after pleading guilty to three felony counts of possession of child sexually abusive material and three felony counts of computers-using to commit a crime.

State police said Ance was arrested in May after an investigation by the MSP Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. According to the criminal complaint, Ance had child sexually abusive material on a computer. The sentences can be served concurrently and he was given credit for 292 days served in jail.

Ance, who initially faced 12 felony charges, was also represented by Numinen.
