Caution urged near area rivers

IRON MOUNTAIN — Caution is urged near the banks of waterways across the Upper Peninsula, the National Weather Service said in a special statement Thursday.

“Due to the recent heavy rainfall, coupled with snowpack melting this week, area rivers, creeks and streams have risen, some to bankfull,” forecasters said.

A flood warning has been issued for the Menominee River near McAllister, Wis., while flood advisories have been issued for the Paint River at Crystal Falls and the Escanaba River at Humboldt in Marquette County.

People are advised to not walk or otherwise recreate near or along these banks. Potential flooding can be reported to law enforcement or the weather service.

Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expect tonight, which could cause minor flooding along Lake Superior shorelines, forecasters added.

Starting at $3.50/week.
