IRON MOUNTAIN — North Elementary School students, parents and staff are eager to see their new playground designed by Penchura LLC become a reality May 14.
The Iron Mountain Public School District, in partnership with Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools, is asking for the public’s help with a Community Build Day set to start at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at North Elementary, 900 Fifth St. in Iron Mountain.
The project does not require previous experience, but volunteers with construction and heavy machinery training would be helpful. Meals and a T-shirt will be provided to volunteers. The build will continue throughout the day until the project is finished.
The Iron Mountain Public School District also would appreciate assistance from businesses willing to donate time and/or pieces of heavy machinery for the day.
The district’s plan to have volunteers install the equipment would save an estimated $42,000 and bring the cost down to about $152,000, some of which was covered by a community schools grant. They had hoped to have the equipment in place before the school year started but delays kept the equipment from arriving before late fall.
