Invasive species group offers plant ‘trade ups’

Registrations due for annual meeting

KINGSFORD –Wild Rivers Invasive Species Coalition is hosting a native plant trade up through Friday at 420 N Hooper St., Kingsford.

Bring in your invasive shrub and leave with a money voucher to buy a native plant replacement. Vouchers can only be used at participating greenhouses –Flowerland Greenhouse in Iron Mountain and Chenier’s Greenhouse in Norway.

For each invasive shrub, you will get a $5 voucher (up to $50 available). You can bring in an unlimited number of invasive shrubs. Common invasive ornamental shrubs include Japanese barberry, honeysuckle, buckthorn, and autumn olive.

Also, the WRISC annual meeting will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, at Camp Daniel, W10541 Army Lane in Athelstane, Wis.

The partner meeting will include hands-on training and opportunities for volunteers and professionals alike.

Register by Wednesday to reserve a spot.
