The Dickinson County Office of Veterans Affairs hosted its annual Memorial Day ceremony Monday morning in downtown Iron Mountain. The main speaker was John Jamison, public affairs officer at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Though some believe Memorial Day should be a somber occasion for the fallen, Jamison made the case that those lost in military service would want their friends and family not to mourn but to honor them by doing something enjoyable "for their sake." Jamison concluded, "Let's move toward remembering their way of living life and live for them." Behind him are, from left, co-emcees Dave Stohl and Dickinson County Veterans Services Officer Denise Formolo; Dennis Lynch, who gave the invocation; and Kingsford High School choir members Emily Hoh and Logan McFarland.
