Standoff in Iron Mountain
IRON MOUNTAIN — A person considered suicidal and armed with a knife was taken into custody Saturday after a standoff in Iron Mountain, law enforcement said.
Iron Mountain Police Department officers were sent at 12:40 p.m. to the 400 block of East A Street on a report of an assault in a backyard. When IMPD officers arrived, a male had barricaded himself in the back of a camper trailer on the property.
Patrol officers began negotiations that were taken over by the Critical Incident Response Team, or CIRT, according to a news release by Iron Mountain Police.
The male a short time later surrendered after use of less-lethal “bean bag” rounds, the IMPD stated in a news release.
The CIRT Team has members from the Iron Mountain Police Department, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, the Kingsford Public Safety Department and the Norway Police Department.
A report on the incident will be submitted to Dickinson County Prosecutor Lisa Richards for review and possible criminal charges.
Also assisting were the Michigan State Police, Michigan DNR officers, the Iron Mountain Fire Department and Integrity Care EMS.
