State lists new virus death in Dickinson
State data Tuesday showed a new death in Dickinson County blamed on COVID-19, even as virus activity appeared to decline in the area for the week.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website Tuesday recorded 14 new confirmed positives in Dickinson County since Dec. 20, down seven from the previous week. Iron County had 14 new confirmed cases as well, eight fewer than the week before.
The MDHHS website Tuesday added 168 confirmed positives since Dec. 20 to the Upper Peninsula’s tally: 45 in Marquette County, 26 in Delta County, 16 in Menominee County, the 14 apiece in Dickinson and Iron counties, 13 in Houghton and Baraga counties, 10 in Gogebic County, five in Schoolcraft and Chippewa counties, four in Luce County, two in Mackinac County and one in Alger County.
Along with Dickinson County, the state listed a new confirmed death in Marquette and Houghton counties.
Using only the MDHHS figures, the Upper Peninsula as of Tuesday has had 62,404 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 954 confirmed deaths since pandemic tracking began in March 2020.
Across the U.P., the MDHHS data Tuesday had Keweenaw County at 576 confirmed cases and 67 probable, and 14 confirmed deaths and one probable death; Luce County, 767 confirmed cases and 875 probable, 16 confirmed deaths and four probable deaths; Ontonagon County, 1,167 confirmed, 138 probable and 41 deaths, three probable; Alger County, 1,262 confirmed, 819 probable and eight deaths, 10 probable; Schoolcraft County, 1,349 confirmed cases and 816 probable, 14 deaths and four probable; Mackinac County, 1,932 confirmed cases and 997 probable, 33 deaths and five probable; Baraga County, 2,094 confirmed cases, 442 probable and 56 deaths, two probable; Iron County, 3,073 confirmed cases and 396 probable, 82 deaths and 17 probable; Gogebic County, 3,532 confirmed cases and 681 probable, 44 deaths and 33 probable; Chippewa County, 4,099 confirmed cases and 5,957 probable, and 98 deaths, 19 probable; Menominee County, 4,752 confirmed cases, 2,150 probable and 64 deaths, 13 probable; Dickinson County, 6,130 confirmed cases and 3,082 probable, 102 deaths and 25 probable; Houghton County, 8,140 confirmed cases, 1,231 probable, 94 deaths and 12 probable; Delta County, 8,985 confirmed cases and 3,208 probable, 144 deaths and 36 probable; and Marquette County, 14,546 confirmed cases, 4,133 probable and 144 deaths, 17 probable.
The MDHHS on Tuesday had 10,927 new confirmed and probable coronavirus positives in Michigan since Dec. 20, or an average of about 1,561 cases per day for the seven-day period, for a total of 2,988,654 cases since COVID tracking began. The state since Dec. 20 added 110 confirmed and probable deaths attributed to the virus to reach 40,767.
The state updates COVID-19 data once a week, usually on Tuesdays.
For the five Wisconsin counties in the region, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Wednesday had Marinette County at 14,128 COVID-19 positives so far, up 26 since Dec. 23, and 147 deaths; Vilas County, 6,366 positives, up six, and 103 deaths; Forest County, 3,271 positives, up one, and 54 deaths; Iron County, 1,781 positives, up two, and 49 deaths; and Florence County, 1,322 positives, up one, and 17 deaths.
