Most incumbents hold seats in Florence, Marinette races
Democratic-backed candidate Janet Protaswiecz defeated Dan Kelly by 11 percentage points in Tuesday’s Wisconsin Supreme Court election, but Kelly was the overwhelming choice in both Florence and Marinette counties.
In Florence County, Kelly prevailed 1,100 to 472. In Marinette County, Kelly drew 7,148 votes to 4,590 for Protasiewicz.
In Wisconsin’s spring election, a number of incumbents in contested local races kept their seats Tuesday in Florence and Marinette counties, unofficial results showed.
In the town of Florence, incumbent John Holbrook defeated Tom Brandt, 339 to 285, for the supervisor 1 board seat, while incumbent Shane McClain defeated Rich Vaccaro, 379 to 263, for the supervisor 2 position.
In the town of Aurora, incumbent supervisors Gary Moore, 199 votes, and Tony McCarthy, 143 votes, turned back a challenge from Fred Harvath, 104 votes, in a race for two seats.
In the town of Long Lake, however, incumbent Town Board Chairperson John Rodaer was edged by challenger Dale Ritchie, 52 to 41.
Write-in candidates elected in other town of Long Lake contests were Amanda Mulvey, incumbent clerk, 20 votes, and Sandra Hodgson, incumbent treasurer, 17 votes.
In a race for an open supervisor’s seat in the town of Commonwealth, registered write-in candidate Teresa Priddy drew 31 votes, topping registered write-in candidate John Phillips, who got 23 votes.
In a race for town clerk-treasurer in the town of Fence, registered write-in candidate Julie Johnson was the top vote-getter with 47. Trailing were incumbent Shelley Dumais, 28 votes, and Theresa Smith, 22.
In the town of Tipler, Charles Butch Nichols, with 43 votes, and James Gilligan, 28, were the winners in a contest for two supervisor seats. Roger Kelter, an incumbent, drew 24 votes and Charlie Hook Noack received 22 votes.
In the town of Pembine, it was a very tight race for two supervisor seats. Incumbent Anthony Erno led with 124 votes, followed by newcomer Christopher Bigelow, 122 votes, and incumbent Brad Reabe, 121 votes.
In the town of Amberg, challenger Shawn A. Sagan Sr. edged incumbent Town Board Chairperson Matt Mattison, 146 to 144.
School board incumbents prevail
In the School District of Niagara, Incumbents Joe Champeau, 278 votes, and Debbie Champeau Tauriainen, 262 votes, defeated challengers Craig Garvaglia, 192 votes, and John C. Ostermann, 170 votes, retaining two seats on the school board.
In the Beecher-Dunbar-Pembine School District, four candidates were competing for three at-large seats on the school board. Unofficial results showed incumbent Mandy McClain the leader with 365 votes, followed by incumbents Brian Bousley and Tim Potterville, 363 votes each, trailed by challenger Lisa Hanson, 353 votes.
