Man faces sex charges after IM arrest

IRON MOUNTAIN — A Florida man faces a first-degree criminal sexual conduct charge in Dickinson County for engaging in sexual penetration with a juvenile, according to a complaint filed in Dickinson County District Court.

Todd Allen Stafford, 59, whose address is listed as St. Augustine, Fla., but who also has ties to Wisconsin, was arrested Friday by the Iron Mountain Police Department.

Police were acting on a July 12 report that Stafford had assaulted a juvenile at a motel in Iron Mountain. When he traveled to Iron Mountain again, he was taken into custody.

First-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a penalty of up to life in prison.

Stafford also faces two counts of criminal sexual conduct-third degree involving a person ages 13-15, each punishable by up to 15 years; one count of accosting children for immoral purposes, punishable by up to four years; and one count of using a computer to commit a crime, punishable by up to seven years.

Stafford remains jailed without bond and is scheduled for a probable cause conference Aug. 3 and a preliminary exam Aug. 10.
