Major work on US 41/M-28 roundabout project starts today

ISHPEMING — The Michigan Department of Transportation will invest about $6.4 million to build a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 41/M-28 and Lakeshore Drive in Ishpeming.

Work includes asphalt rebuilding, drainage work, guardrail, retaining walls, lighting, signs, pavement markings, bridge widening with steel beams, deck replacement, bridge barrier construction, and approach work. Some preliminary traffic signal work has already begun.

The work is expected to start today and end in October 2024.

North Lakeshore Drive will be closed beginning today with a posted detour on Country Lane and River Parkway. A temporary signal has been installed at the intersection of U.S. 41/M-28 and Country Lane. This signal is currently in flash mode and will begin normal operation when the detour starts.
