IRON MOUNTAIN — The Iron Mountain Downtown Development Authority will again bring Halloween fun to the downtown on Saturday.

The second-annual Pumpkin Walk is set from noon to 3 p.m. at the Systems Control stage and parking lot on Iron Mountain Street, across from the Dickinson County Library.

First National Bank & Trust has joined with Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson as co-presenting sponsors.

For the past 11 years, Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson hosted its annual Trunk or Treat event in the medical facility parking lot.

“With the hospital’s current construction projects continuing, they felt it was the perfect time to combine to make it one large community event,” DDA Event Coordinator Kenzie Williamsen said.

“We look forward to continuing our tradition of enjoying Halloween with our community members and distributing sweet treats to our local children,” said Mandy Shelast, president of Marshfield Michigan Region. “The DDA and First National Bank & Trust are great community partners. Marshfield is honored to be the co-presenting sponsor of the second-annual Pumpkin Walk.”

Last year, the DDA calculated about 650 children attended the event. Now teaming up with Marshfield, they believe they could see more than 1,000.

Williamsen noted they have already exceeded the past number of registered vehicles. “Everyone will again have their trunks or spaces decorated for visitors to enjoy while passing out treats to the kids,” she said.

First National Bank has planned something special but kept it a secret, Williamsen said. “Last year they set up a carnival area, which was so creative and fun. I’m looking forward to see what they put together for this year,” she said.

Young princesses and goblins can take part in a costume contest at 3 p.m. at the stage. The DDA will divide the youth into different age brackets, with two to three ages within that group. Judging will start with the youngest age group and go up to the oldest. Evan Blagec of Mr. Black Presents will cast the deciding vote. Prizes will be awarded in each age group.

“I’m excited to see all the kids in costume,” she said. “It’s going to be so much fun.”

The DDA will also conduct voting for the best decorated trunk or treat display during the Pumpkin Walk. The winner will receive a $250 mini-grant.

The Dickinson County Library will bring back its Ghoulie Glowing Golfing. Kids can skip the line by calling the library at 906-774-1218 to schedule a tee time. Walk-ins are welcome Saturday.

The library will also have Halloween-themed crafts for kids of all ages to enjoy.

Trick-or-treaters can visit downtown businesses to show off their costumes for candy as well. A list of participants will be posted on the DDA website.

The DDA will provide water, pop and popcorn during the event.

In conjunction with the walk, the DDA will have its annual Spooky Downtown Window Decorating Contest. Participating businesses can create festive window displays that will be judged by public.

Voting is now open and runs until the day of the event. Those businesses will have a QR code in the window for easy voting, which can be done through a link on the DDA website as well. In addition, ballots will be available at the downtown stage as well as businesses during the walk.

Only one ballot is allowed per person; multiple votes will not by counted, Williamsen said.

Winners will be announced on Halloween. First place will receive a $400 mini-grant and second place a $200 mini-grant, sponsored by First National Bank & Trust.

“We are excited to see what our local downtown businesses come up with,” Williamsen said.

The event was conceived last year as a collaboration between First National Bank & Trust and the DDA to have a Halloween Trunk or Treat event downtown.

“We are thrilled to be able to partner with such a community-focused organization like Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson,” said Russ Kassin, First National Bank & Trust president and CEO. “Their strong sense of community aligns perfectly with our organization’s core value of serving the communities we live and work in. As we have done throughout our 136 years of business, we will continue to be actively involved in the success of our communities.”

“We are so thankful to have these generous businesses in our community to be able to provide this family-friendly free event,” Williamsen added.
