FP’s Larson named new Florence superintendent

FLORENCE Wis. — Christy Larson of the Forest Park School District in Crystal Falls has been hired as the new superintendent of the Florence County School District.

The Florence County Board of Education at a special meeting chose Larson to fill the district’s vacant superintendent position.

Larson started in school administration as principal for the Belmont School District in Wisconsin before eventually becoming superintendent.

The Florence County position has been open since Karl Morrin left at the end of the 2023 school year to take a job with the Maple School District in Maple, Wis. Morrin became superintendent in 2021 when Ben Niehaus, who had the position from May 2013 to June 2021, became director of member services for the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.

“The Board of Education is confident that her visionary leadership, collaborative spirit and dedication to student achievement will contribute to the continued success of our district,” the board stated in a news release. “We extend a warm welcome to Christy Larson and look forward to a bright future under her guidance.

Larson will take over as Florence superintendent July 1.
