CEDAR RIVER — This year’s Cedar River BridgeWalk will feature a joke contest in honor of the late Cedar River resident Tom Bolen.

Bolen always made light of the day with a good joke or two, and if he liked you, he would entertain you all night with jokes. He impressed many by his storytelling or by his sharp shooting in pool.

Bolen was a logger most of his life with a stint or two of commercial fishing. He was a hard worker and worked his whole life until he couldn’t. He was unofficially referred to as the mayor of Cedar River.

Attend this year’s Cedar River BridgeWalk with your best joke and maybe win top honors. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the top three jokesters.

The Cedar River BridgeWalk this year falls on Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 10 a.m. at the Cedarville Township Hall located next to the Cedar River State Harbor. The walk starts at 11 and ends at the Halfway Bar and Grill where festivities await.
