One killed in Iron County crash; three injured
CRYSTAL FALLS — One person was killed and three were injured in a one-vehicle crash early today on Ottawa Lake Road in Iron County.
Deputies were dispatched at 3:11 a.m. and found that a westbound 2008 Chrysler minivan failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the road, hitting a tree, Sheriff Ryan Boehmke said in a news release.
A male passenger from Iron River was deceased upon the arrival of deputies. The female driver and a male passenger, both from Iron River, were take to Aspirus Iron River Hospital with serious injuries. A third male passenger, from Indiana, had to be freed from the vehicle using extrication tools. He was also taken to Aspirus Iron River with serious injuries.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, Boehmke said.
Assisting were West Iron County Fire Department, Iron County Search and Rescue, Aspirus EMS, Iron County Central Dispatch, Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River, Michigan State Police accident investigators and Northland Towing.
