Hometowne Lumber collects winter items for homeless vets

Items for homeless veterans were collected at a giving tree at Hometowne Lumber in Kingsford.

KINGSFORD — This year Hometowne Lumber in Kingsford set up a giving tree to collect donations for the local community of homeless veterans.

Most people do not know that Iron and Dickinson counties have quite a big number of homeless, but the real shocker for Hometowne Lumber employees was the number of veterans that are in this homeless group.

Hometowne has been collecting donations to help keep them warm and comfortable this winter season. They have partnered up with the local VA hospital and some of members of the community to set this up. They are happy to say they have collected more than four big boxes of items that they will be distributing at the VA.

Items needed for veterans include winter gloves, winter jackets XL and XXL, winter boots sizes 10 to 13; tennis shoes, 10 to 13; socks, blankets, hand and toe warmers, snowpants, sweatshirts/hoodies, gift cards.

Hometowne enjoyed this so much, they decided to do a giving tree quarterly to different organizations and/or causes to help support local groups, individuals, and families in the local communities.

Starting at $2.99/week.
