West Shore Fishing Museum to host perennial plant sale

MENOMINEE — West Shore Fishing Museum will host a Heritage Perennial Plant Sale from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Offered for sale will be perennials from the museum gardens and local donors that are ready to thrive in the local climate.

A wide variety of daylilies and many other reliable choices will be available. Quantities are limited, so plan to shop early.

The sale includes peonies, newer cultivars of daylilies, canna and dahlia bulbs, rhubarb, herbs, bleeding heart, hostas, coral bells, tall sedum, fall aster, liatris, and much more. Confer with a master gardener about possibilities. Thanks go to the Bay Area Daylily Society of Green Bay and the Glacial Gardeners of Florence for their plant donations.

The museum is open to visitors every Saturday and Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. There is no admission charge for this family friendly site; donations are gratefully accepted.

Step into history by visiting the restored Victorian home and two exhibit buildings portraying fishing life from prehistoric times through the 1950s. The displays, which include numerous local photographs, offer an intriguing glance at the life lived up and down the shores of Green Bay and other Great Lakes coastal areas.

The grounds of the museum include flower gardens, seven commercial fishing boats, and access to an interesting walking beach. A unique flagpole stands at high water line. Visitors can explore expanded nature trails to enjoy the bay and the woods. The vintage gift shop features treasures of bygone eras.

West Shore Fishing Museum is located on M-35, 15 miles north of Menominee or eight miles south of Cedar River adjacent to Bailey Park. Drive into Bailey Park at either entrance and turn left on the gravel road inside the park. At the north end of the park, follow the shady lane into the museum grounds.

Starting at $3.50/week.
