Township millage renewals on Tuesday’s Iron County ballot
The only elections taking place Tuesday in Iron County are proposed millage renewals in Stambaugh and Iron River townships.
Stambaugh Township is seeking a five-year levy of 2 mills, or $2 per $1,000 of taxable value, for maintaining and improving secondary roads. This is a renewal of 2 mills that expired with the 2024 tax levy, the ballot states. The first year of the levy is expected to generate $239,000.
Iron River Township has two proposals. The first seeks a three-year renewal of 1.25 mills, or $1.25 per $1,000 of taxable value, to be used “exclusively for general township purposes.”
This is a renewal of the township’s general operating millage that expired with the 2024 tax levy, the ballot states. The millage would raise an estimated $100,684 in the first year.
The second Iron River Township question is a three-year renewal of 1 mill, or $1 per $1,000 of taxable value, for road improvements, repair and maintenance. It would raise an estimated $80,547 in the first year and is renewal of a millage that expired with the 2024 tax levy, the ballot states.
