This week’s Back to the Present, provided by the Menominee Range Historical Museum, looks back at the Edward E. St. Arnauld’s Saloon, at 220 W. Hughitt St. in Iron Mountain

Edward E. St. Arnauld ran “sample rooms” offering “fine wines, liquors, cigars and bottle goods” at 200 W. Hughitt St. in 1892.

It was documented he still was operating a saloon in 1902 and again in 1907.

By 1913, Antonio J. Lefebvre was running the saloon. At that time, the directory stated Edward E. St. Arnauld was still a resident at that location, which was most likely in the upper level.

The poster in the window celebrates St. Jean de Baptiste Day on Saturday, June 23. It was noted that June 23 fell on Saturday in 1900, 1906 and 1917. Edward J. Verette sold “Staple and Fancy Groceries, Fresh and Smoked Meats, Freshly Dressed Poultry Every Saturday, Vegetables and Fruits of All Kinds” out of the building in 1925.

By 1935, John Ealmini was running a tavern at the corner location.

Over the years, the two-story building was home to several different businesses, including Galaxy Sport.
