Marinette officers cleared in fatal shooting
Two police officers who fatally shot a suspect after a chase in Marinette County on Aug. 29 will not face criminal charges, Marinette County District Attorney DeShea Morrow has ruled.
Andrew Collamore, 23, was killed after a chase on U.S. 41 near Peshtigo, Wis.
Morrow and the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation say Collamore was armed with a knife and refused commands to drop it before he was shot.
In a news release, Morrow said her determination to clear the Marinette police officers was based on evidence that included witness statements, video from squad cameras and body camera footage.
“The evidence clearly shows that the officers acted appropriately and in accordance with their professional training and proper legal standards in responding to the reasonable perception of the threat of deadly force being used against them,” she said.
Collamore was wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Dane County when his vehicle was spotted in Marinette. During a chase, his vehicle allegedly reached speeds of 105 mph.
After the vehicle rolled multiple times while trying to avoid spike strips, Collamore exited from the passenger door. He ran toward one of the officers with the knife in his right hand before he was shot, Morrow said.
Dane County authorities believe Collamore was a squatter who had killed the owner of the cabin in southwestern Wisconsin where he was staying, according to fox11online. The body of Thomas Muckler, 70, was found Aug. 28 at the cabin in the town of Mazomanie.
