Beekeepers UP conference planned March 28
HARRIS — The Northwoods Beekeepers Club will host an Upper Peninsula Beekeeping Conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, March 28, at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris.
Keynote speaker is Candace Rose Casados, who will present “Bees Through Time and Cultures.” She is president of the Michigan Beekeepers Association.
Others making presentations include Chris Hansen, owner of Hansen Honey Farm, who also become nationally recognized as an expert in transporting honey bee packages since founding Hansen Honey Trucking in 2012; Ana Heck, Michigan State University’s Apiculture Extension educator; Andy Hemken, a beekeeper who runs Hemken Honey Co. in southeast Wisconsin; Rebecca Krans, an MSU Extension consumer horticulture educator; Joel Lantz, a Marquette-based beekeeper, one of the founders of the Superior Beekeeping Club; and Dr. Meghan Milbrath, an assistant professor in the Department of Entomology and in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Michigan State University.
The conference will have sessions covering topics for all levels of beekeepers. Registration is $45, which covers a full day of concurrent sessions to choose from. Vendors will also be on site.
