Donations made to Iron Mountain General Scholarship Fund
IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School has received several recent donations to the General Scholarship Fund in memory of several IMHS alumni.
The graduating Class of 2026 will become the 36th class to benefit from the General Scholarship Fund. This scholarship fund was established in 1988, and first awarded in 1990. The General Scholarship has assisted more than 130 graduating seniors by awarding more than $400,000 to date.
IMHS has received a repeat donation from the family of Dixie Brown, in her loving memory. She was a 1958 IMHS graduate who went on to teach English, speech and special education at IMHS for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993.
The family and friends of Rob Langsford also made a donation in his loving memory to the General Scholarship Fund. Langsford was a 1976 IMHS alumni who served on the board of education for many years and was extremely active in the community.
IMHS also received a donation from the family of Ed Kovochich in his loving memory. He graduated from IMHS in 1968 and went on to become a lifelong educator and leader.
Brown has a plaque on the wall in her memory from past donations from her family and Iron Mountain High School has added a display plaque on the General Scholarship wall for both Rob and Ed in their memory. The school thanks these families and friends for their generous donations in honor of these fantastic former Mountaineers.
The General Scholarship Fund is unique because any person or company can donate any amount of money to the fund. This scholarship fund continues to grow each year because of the generous donations from community members, who have contributed on behalf of their class, parents, siblings, teachers, friends or even a life event. Donations of $100 or more are recognized on engraved display plaques that are on the General Scholarship Wall, which is on the main floor of the Iron Mountain High School building.
Those interested in making a tax-deductible contribution as a graduating class, as an individual to honor or memorialize someone, or as a general donation to this fund can contact the Scholarship Administrator at IMHS at 906-779-2610, ext. 4, or email smithd@imschools.org.
