Sheriff Miller completes NSI’s Leadership Development Course

Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller receives the National Sheriffs’ Institute Leadership Development Course certificate of completion from Chief Stephen Amos of the National Institute of Corrections.

MARINETTE, Wis. — Sheriff Randy Miller of the Marinette Sheriff’s Office completed participation in the 124th session of the National Sheriffs’ Institute Leadership Development Course from March 23-26 in Quantico, Va.

This no-cost program is provided by the National Institute of Corrections and U.S. Department of Justice, in collaboration with the Major County Sheriffs of America.

Miller was selected to join 22 other sheriffs from across the country for this opportunity to deeply assess their individual leadership strengths and define a clear leadership direction tailored to their unique roles as elected officials and chief executive officers of their respective sheriff’s offices.

The NSI is an executive leadership training program designed specifically for sheriffs to prepare them for all matters that impact the office of the sheriff. The NSI was first developed and presented in the early 1970s in response to a need by sheriffs to meet the evolving demands of the office. The NSI has gone through many iterations throughout its history. Since 1993, the NSI has been housed in the NIC Jails Division.

In addition to the Leadership Development course, the NSI currently offers two other courses of study: the NSI Jail Leadership course, which enables sheriffs and their jail administrators to train as a team, aligning their operational vision and developing a shared strategic roadmap for their facility; and the NSI Communicating for Impact course, which equips sheriffs with advanced internal and external communication strategies, including hands-on media simulations, to effectively lead change and promote organizational values.
