IRON MOUNTAIN — Lake Antoine Park Partners is calling on community members to help prepare the park for the summer season.

The first work bee of the year is slated from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Lake Antoine Park in Iron Mountain.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of cleanup projects throughout the park, including raking and trash removal.

“We have various landscape-type jobs planned throughout the park,” LAPP treasurer Ann Hruska said. “Mulch needs to be spread in the playground area and by the beach house.”

Hruska noted the group plans to relocate supplies into its new storage building, which was the former campground bathhouse.

“It’s exciting — right now we have materials in three buildings in different locations,” she said. “It will be really nice for all our light supplies and the heavy stuff that we need to move in and out of storage.”

LAPP will supply rakes and some work gloves, though volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools. She said leaf blowers would be especially helpful for cleaning debris from the park’s new playground turf.

Water and snacks will be available for participants throughout the morning.

“The grass, trees and flowers in the park are still waking up,” Hruska said. “This is a good time to get the grounds cleaned for the opening of the season.”

Due to busy summertime schedules, LAPP has scheduled its second community cleanup day from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, ahead of the Independence Day holiday.

“We will need to catch up on whatever weeds have cropped up, so the park is looking spiffy for the Fourth of July,” she said.

LAPP hopes community members come out to give a few hours of their time. “All ages are welcome — bring family and friends,” she said.

Upcoming park events include —
