Remember when?

A photograph that dates between 1940-1950 shows the inside of Pasquale's Tavern at 402 Fifth St., Iron Mountain. (Menominee Range Historical Museum photo)

This week’s “Remember when?” — provided by the Menominee Range Historical Museum — looks back at a local tavern on the north side of Iron Mountain.

The photograph, which dates between 1940-1950, is a view of the inside of Pasquale’s Tavern at 402 Fifth St.

In the 1935 City Directory, the address indicates Pasquale and Matilda Celanese operated a grocery store and tavern, with living quarters on the premises.

By 1939, the saloon was listed as the Celanese Tavern.

The Happy Land Cafe, operated by Mrs. Carmen DeUhlio, was operating in 1946 as indicated in the City Directory.

Pasquale Celanese still resided at the address, as did Russel (Ruth) Ackerman, who worked at the Anderson Motor Company, and Robert (Rachel) Oliver.

“Remember when?” appears every Wednesday in The Daily News. Those with suggestions or historical photographs they would like to submit can email Terri Castelaz at tcastelaz@ironmountaindailynews.com.

Starting at $3.50/week.
