US 2 projects slated by MDOT
Motorists should expect single-lane closures with temporary traffic signals on U.S. 2 as resurfacing projects begin soon in Iron, Dickinson and Menominee counties, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.
MDOT is investing about $9.5 million to resurface about 2 miles of U.S. 2 from the Wisconsin state line to Airport Road in Iron County.
The project, scheduled to begin Wednesday, includes asphalt crushing, shaping and resurfacing, drainage improvements, guardrail, signs and pavement markings, MDOT said in a news release.
Estimate completion is late October.
MDOT will invest about $3.4 million to resurface about 10.5 miles of U.S. 2 from west of the U.S. 2/U.S. 41 intersection in Powers to west of the Dickinson/Menominee county line.
The tentative start date is Monday, May 11, with an estimated end date in late August.
The work includes asphalt base crushing, shaping and resurfacing, joint repairs, paver placed surface seal and pavement markings.
Both projects are intended to extend the lifespan of the roadway and increase safety for motorists.
