Norman Paternoster Sr.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Norman R. Paternoster Sr., 77, of Iron Mountain, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, after a long battle fighting the effects of a stroke he suffered in June 2014.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1939, a lifelong resident of Iron Mountain, living on the “nort-side” as he would call it. Norman grew up and lived the majority of his life on Smith Street and enjoyed his life very much.

Norman graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1957. He spent time in the Navy before moving back home and working as a custodian for the Iron Mountain School District for many years, finally retiring in the early 2000s.

He married his life wife, Jaqueline Marie Konstad in 1967, and together they had four children.

Norman had many friends and enjoyed many hobbies. He enjoyed gardening, socializing (especially morning coffee at Hardee’s), golfing, “rummage sale-ing,” being the area “handyman,” “mowing lawns,” making “improvements” to his house, and finding “the best possible deal known-to-man” while grocery shopping.

He always had countless projects in process, had a quirky sense of humor, and had a routine that no one dare interfere with, such as driving “over the hill” to not hit the traffic lights in town.

Also, “touching his stuff,” and taking a daily nap during which you dare not bother him. It was these things that made him who he was. Ironically, the more he liked you, the more he would harass you. For these reasons and many more Norm is loved and will be dearly missed.

Norman R. Paternoster Sr. is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Paternoster of Norway; sons, Norman Paternoster Jr. of Sparta, and Richard Paternoster of Las Cruces, N.M.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Jaqueline Paternoster; and infant daughter, Kay Marie Paternoster.

Norman did not wish to have a funeral service, but rather to simply have his ashes scattered underneath his apple tree.

The Anderson Funeral Homes are assisting the Paternoster family and online condolences can be sent at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net.
