Robert (Bud) Charles Moreau Jr.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Robert (Bud) Charles Moreau Jr., formerly of Kingsford, passed away peacefully at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, as the result of a fall, early morning on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

Bud was born on April 29, 1925, to Robert Charles Sr. and Laura Swanson Moreau.

He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1943. He joined the Navy Air Corps upon graduation; however, before he received his wings, World War II ended, and Bud moved to East Lansing, enrolling as a student at Michigan State University.

In 1950, Bud graduated from MSU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Applied Science.

Following graduation, Bud joined Swift & Company as a sales representative, and that same year he moved to Mt. Vernon, Ohio, where he met his soon-to-be wife, Jeannine Hagan Moreau, through mutual friends.

The couple was married on June 30, 1951, in Mt. Vernon.

From Mt. Vernon, Bud was transferred by Swift to eight different locations in the U.S. and served as division manager in the last three. He worked the next 10 years of his career as International Marketing Manager for Velsicol Chemical Corporation in Chicago. During this time, Bud was also President of the Midwest Agricultural Marketing Association. In 1986, Velsicol was acquired by Sandoz Corporation, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. Working with Sandoz, he had the opportunity to travel to South America, Europe, Russia, and China.

In 1990, Bud and his wife retired back to Mt. Vernon, where they originally met.

Along with his interest in agriculture and business marketing, Bud enjoyed the creative arts. He made stained-glass lamps, and he hooked rugs and wall hangings. He loved to antique and visit yard and estate sales with Jeannine. They also collected Heisey glass together. For several years they were business partners in the Farley and Moore Antique Mall in downtown Mt. Vernon. Bud also enjoyed refinishing furniture and restoring their 100-plus-year-old first retirement home in Mt. Vernon.

Bud is survived by wife of 67 years, Jeannine, of Greensboro; four children, Robert Charles Moreau III (Rusty) and wife, Annette, of Portland, Ore., William H. Moreau (Bill) and wife, Barb, of Holland, Mich.; Arthur Scott Moreau (Scott) and wife, Emily, of Wheaton, Ill.; Thomas (Tom) Allen Moreau and wife, Holly, of Greensboro.

He is also survived by his brother, Doug Moreau of Iron Mountain, and sister, Sally Levens of Costa Mesa, Calif.

Bud and Jeannine have 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Hovey (Papa) Hagan and mother-in-law, Eloise (Mimi) Hagan; sister-in-law, Jeannette Moreau; and brother-in-law, Charlie Levens.

The family will hold a private ceremony at a later date to remember and honor Bud’s life. Memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
