Donald "Don" George Koller

IRON MOUNTAIN — Donald “Don” George Koller, 61, of Iron Mountain passed away peacefully on July 12, 2019, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, with his loving family by his side.

Don was born on May 24, 1958, in Iron Mountain, son of Melva and the late Roger Frey. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1976. After high school, he started working at Dickinson Homes where he became a master electrician. In 1995 he started his own business, Koller Electric.

On Sept. 18, 1982, he married the love of his life, Constance (Connie) Coenen. Together they lived in Iron Mountain for the past 37 years where they raised their son Derek.

Don was a member of the National Ski Patrol for 20 years. During those 20 years, Don received the Outstanding Ski Patrol Award after being nominated by fellow members. He was also an avid member of the Eastern Dickinson County Sportsmen’s Club.

Don was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending his free time in the woods. He had several hobbies that he shared with his son Derek, his grandsons, and his late father, Roger Frey. Those hobbies included hunting, fishing, cutting wood, and riding around on his side-by-side at his families camp: “Camp Double D.K.”

Hunting camp was his pride and extreme enjoyment. During the summers, Don and Connie enjoyed spending their time camping at Pentoga Park. They met and made lifelong friends over the many summers spent there.

He is survived by his wife, Connie; son, Derek (Mallory) Koller; grandsons, Jacob and Drake Koller; mother, Melva Frey; sister, Tammy Sullivan; brother, Kevin Frey; and nephew, Ty Sullivan.

Don is also survived by many special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, Don was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Frey; aunts and uncles, George and Audrey Rowell, Hosea Rowell, Peggy Rowell, and Fritz Kuhl; cousin, David Rowell; mother-in-law, Patricia Coenen; father-in-law, Irvan Coenen; sister-in-law, Candie Coenen; and special friends, Bob Justus and Dave Weber.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 10 at the funeral home. Fr. Janusz Romanek will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Don’s memory.
